Managing principal Ronald F. Thomas, II was appointed by President George W. Bush as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In 2008, the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake appointed Mr. Thomas to the Department’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) Veterans and Families. Mr. Thomas is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Mr. Ronald F. Thomas, II (J.D. University of South Carolina, B.S. United States Military Academy at West Point) founded and is the Managing Principal at ThomasRiley Strategies, LLC, a company that specializes in consulting, lobbying, and information technology. Mr. Thomas leveraged his expertise in leadership, legislative affairs, and strategic planning to build the practice into one that represents Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, healthcare organizations, and municipalities. He developed enduring business relationships with Lockheed Martin, EBay, Comcast, Capital One, and the Kingdom of Morocco over the course of his career.

As a former officer in the U.S. Army, Mr. Thomas has a deep personal and professional commitment to this nation’s veterans. In 2007, President George W. Bush appointed him to serve as a senior policy advisor to the Secretary of Veteran Affairs and the Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning based on his work in crisis management, budget development, and policy implementation for the Department of Veteran Affairs. In 2008, Secretary of Veterans Affairs James B. Peake appointed him to the department’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) Veterans and Families. Mr. Thomas developed recommendations on how to improve benefits and services for veterans and their families. In the legal arena, he instituted a nationally recognized veteran’s law practice at Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough.

Mr. Thomas has a history of leadership in the Republican Party. As Political Director, he was instrumental in GOP victories in 8 out of 10 statewide contests in 2002. He then served as the 2nd Vice Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party and as a delegate to the 2004 Republican National Convention. Mr. Thomas provides political commentary on MSNBC, BET, national radio programs, and in print publications. The National Urban League also selected him as a featured speaker because of his expertise on issues that impact small business.

On a personal level, Mr. Thomas has two great passions, family and football. He is married with four daughters. Mr. Thomas was a letterman on the winningest team in Army history. Most importantly, he never lost a game to Navy during his college football career.
